5 Oddly Specific Uni Societies

Updated: Nov 23, 2022

Joining societies can sound a bit intimidating at first, until you realise the amazing variety available. Here are a few examples of cool, unexpected and oddly specific university societies to inspire you:

We are "The Bad Boys of The Guild", your University's least essential and most beloved society. For a year now we have been watching pieces of art that barely class as entertainment and we've enjoyed every second.

Partnering with local Manchester Dogs' Home, we take our members to the centre to volunteer onsite with the charity's rescue dogs: helping to walk them and care for them. We also run a number of off-site fundraising trips and trips to events run by both us and the dogs' home.

With frequent events showcasing the best student drag around, we have made history being the UK's first student drag society. Catch one of our performances, ranging from lipsync performers and dancers to live musicians and stand-up comedy.
We welcome performers or lovers of drag of any kind, from kings to things, queens, and anything in between.

Doctor Who Society is a place where any Doctor Who fan is welcome, be it revived or classic, interested or invested. We are the place for you, from William Hartnell to Jodie Whittaker whoever's your Doctor, you will fit right in.

Need the perfect place to chill out or vent your feelings after a long day at uni? Join Knit Sock so you can have fun crocheting or knitting with us!It’s ONLY £4 :o including FREE yarn and equipment. Beginners or advanced- all levels of experience are welcome.

Societies are a great way to share your special interests!

No matter where you go, there’s bound to be other students that share some of your interests and societies are a great way to meet them. Have you checked out the societies available at your university? Which ones are you excited to join?
